With the departure of Coach Metternich, James Placek, a teacher at the high school with a Physical Education and coaching background, was appointed to the head coaching job and Coach Bruno Bierman was given the job as assistant coach. Coach Placek had a veteran squad on hand to greet him. It didn't take long for them to establish themselves as the leader of the conference. The team finished with a twelve and two record and a Conference championship.
In the Regional Tournament the Kahoks defeated Western Military and Granite City but failed against Wood River, a team they had split with during the season. Final record for the season was twenty-one wins and six losses.
Coach Placek opened his second season with just one regular returning, although a good group of young players were on hand. It didn't take the fans and the opponents long to realize the Kahoks were for real again this year. They won twelve of their fourteen Conference games to again win the championship. The Kahoks won the Regional Tournament outscoring the opposition 171 to 69 in the three games. In the Sectional they defeated Gillespie, but in the final game against East St. Louis they could not score in the second half and lost 27-22.
