A player on the team, Sam Martin, served as acting coach as no adult was available during the 1917-18 season. The reasons given were the high cost of acquiring a coach and the shortage of male teachers because of World War I. Martin, captain of the team, was appointed coach by his teammates and led the team through a fifteen game schedule, winning nine of them.

NOTE: The 1918-1919 season was cancelled completely because of the high expense of travel and equipment, the cost of a coach, and the fact that there was a serious influenza epidemic which created an enrollment problem.
